What I learned: I learned the importance of obtaining as much specific information as possible regarding dietary intake in order to get an accurate diet analysis via Diet Analysis Plus software. By keeping diet records and utilizing a dietary computer program, one is able to track the nutrient intake over a specific period of time and analyze intake so as to make recommendations on dietary improvement.
Reflection to assignment: This assignment made me realize that keeping an accurate food record is often a very difficult thing to do. Estimating the quantity of all food and beverages consumed is a time intensive and often confusing task. However, I did find this assignment to be very revealing in terms of my micro and macro nutrient intake and made some dietary adjustments based on the results.
Relevance to the profession: Dietary recall is essential in nutrition counseling sessions as well as in professional practice. Utilizing the program is also a quick and accurate way to calculate nutrient content during menu development. The results of the diet analysis gives us an accurate snapshot of a client’s diet and provides a good starting point for improvement.
